The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has commended South East Senators for taking the worsening plight of the Ndigbo to President Muhammadu Buhari during their last week’s visit to the State House in Abuja.
MASSOB said that the action of the lawmakers has doused tension in the South East because the Senators spoke the mind of their constituents.
In a statement issued on Monday by MASSOB leader, Comrade Uche Madu, the group noted that the Senators outlined “the quantum of socio- infrastructural decay in the zone and also made a case for the release of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and other pro-Biafra activists from detention.
MASSOB described the move as a welcome development – although it expressed fears that President Buhari might not meet the lawmakers’ demands.
Madu said: “This sudden political move of Igbo Senators to President Buhari is a welcome development even though Buhari may not easily hearken to their pleas because of his anti-Igbo policies.”
According to him, “the action of the South East Senators has helped to douse MASSOB’s earlier resolve during the posthumous celebration of the late Biafra leader, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, on November 4, 2016 at Okwe in Imo State, to commence an internal revolution across Igboland, during which Igbo leaders and politicians who are not projecting Igbo interest and seem to be dilly-dallying with alleged marginalisation of the Igbo nation by the present administration will face the wrath of our ancestors.
“We have no intention of witch-hunting or threatening any Igbo leader as our reformed MASSOB is for the services of Ndigbo but Igbo leaders who directly or indirectly promote or uphold or complement the anti-Igbo policies of President Buhari against Igbo interests will surely face the wrath of our ancestors.
“Igbo Senators suddenly woke up because of our leader’s ultimatum during the celebration of the 83rd posthumous birthday of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu) at MASSOB headquarters, Okwe on 4th November, that if Igbo political, religious, traditional, economic and opinion leaders fail to rise up against the oppression, subjection and anti-Igbo policies of President Buhari against Ndigbo and Igboland, including the biased detention of our brothers, Nnamdi Kanu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Madubugwu, Benjamin Nwawuisi (IPOB members), Innocent Orji, Sabastian Amadi, Uchenna Nicholas and 17 MASSOB members, Benjamin Onwuka and other BZM members and effect their release before this year ends, MASSOB will commence a native internal revolution against Igbo leaders,” he said.
MASSOB charged the South East Caucus in the House of Representatives and other Igbo leaders to emulate the Senators.
