Fake reports have been flying around the media houses alleging the executive governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma of demolishing the Imo International conference centre Owerri built by the former governor Rochas Okorocha.
9News Nigeria investigative team led by Princely Onyenwe has gone round the alleged facility located along warehouse bank road owerri to confirm the allegations as false.
We can authoritatively report that at the point of this report by 9News Nigeria in Owerri, the said IICC was still intact.
When contacted, the Commissioner for works Imo state also confirmed the actual state of the IICC as not demolished and however warned the detractors of government to trade with caution and always say the truth as it concerns government policies in the state.
Meanwhile, the said rumour on the demolition of Imo International conference centre IICC Owerri is false and malicious.
However, the actual position of the IICC Owerri has remained the way it was since some parts of the building were pulled off by windstorms a few months ago.
We also confirmed the presence of military personnel and a tractor that was packed outside the IICC premises at the time of this report.
When asked the possible reason for the packing of the tractor at the entrance gate of the IICC, the operator told 9News Nigeria that his boss asked him to pack and wait for him to come over to proceed for their place of work.
We also confirmed that the presence of the military patrol vans in the IICC premises was for surveillance as their duty calls.
This report without a doubt will surely douse the tension raised this morning on radio stations that GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma has pulled down the Imo International conference centre Owerri.
Furthermore, the report has it that GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma should stop witch-hunting Senator Rochas Okorocha and face governance as expected by Imo people.
Recall that the said IICC was built by Senator Okorocha whose interest was to Improve the state but it was unfortunate that the said IICC was destroyed immediately after he left office.
The reason was that the materials used were sub-standard and the work was done in error by the contractors.
Following the high class of DAMAGES done to the Imo state by the Okorocha’s administration, the IICC would have been a solid edifice for the state.
A Government aide posited that it may be of the good interest of Imo state to even demolish IICC and other inferior projects in the state and set up a solid foundation that will stand the test of time.
Again, at the time of this report, the Imo International conference centre IICC Owerri was not demolished as speculated.
It is quite interesting to note that the government of Hope Uzodinma has come to change the narrative to better the state and all hands must be on deck to actualize this feat.
The media is also expected to educate, entertain and enlighten the public aright than to keep peddling falsehood and fake news.IICC Owerri is not demolished yet.
