Hopes have been raised that issues leading to the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Oyo State-owned tertiary institutions may be resolved on Thursday.
Chairman, Joint Action Committee of Oyo State tertiary institutions, Dr Kola Lawal, stated this in an interview with reporters in Ibadan.
Lawal revealed that the unions will be meeting on Tursday, as he promised to brief reporters about the resolutions of the talks.
9News Nigeria reports that some of his words were; “We met yesterday (Tuesday) with the government and management, where we reached some decisions; we are trying to see how we will implement those decisions.
“We have called a meeting of the unions for us to deliberate and take a final position. “We are already working on documentation, and hopefully, we will resolve it tomorrow (Thursday),” he said.
9News Nigeria recalls that the strike, which began on Monday, has been effective at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, which has led to grounding of activities in the school.
There was no movement in and out of TPI, just as students could not continue with their examinations, which started on Friday.
Monday’s meeting of the unions’ representatives with the Oyo State Government and heads of the tertiary institutions ended in a deadlock, as a consensus on how to address the issues raised by the unions was reached on Tuesday.
The institutions declared the strike following the non-payment of staff minimum wage and other arrears such as the implementation of the approved 25 and 35 per cent salary increment.
The affected institutions are The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa and The Okeogun Polytechnic, Saki.
Others are The College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, and The Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate.
