Report reaching 9News Nigeria Sunday morning has it that some unknown assailants attacked a divisional police station in Mgbakwu Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State leaving one officer badly injured.
It was in the wee hours of Sunday morning that the sounds of gunshots were heard and before the community vigilante group could reach the location of the divisional police station where the shots were fired, the hoodlums had taken off.
It was discovered that the hoodlums had fired several shots at the officers at the police station and one of the officers was badly injured. The hoodlums also made a botched attempt to set the police station on fire before running away as they noticed people rushing to the location.
The injured police officer was taken to a medical facility where he is getting medical attention, and police have resumed investigation to unravel the source and purpose for the unprecedented attack.
According to an eye witness from Mgbakwu who spoke with 9News Nigeria, the incident is still a shock to the community as such has never been heard of in recent time. “The security situation is getting so worrisome that the members of the community have to sit up and do something,” he said.
As of the time of this report, police have not been able to identify the assailants and the reason behind the attack and arson attempt.
Meanwhile, on another report, some unknown gunmen as well waylaid a police truck and opened fire killing about 5 mobile police men on the spot.
