Terrorist surrenders rise 213% in North-East amid sustained military pressure

Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) said sustained offensive on terrorists’ operations and enclaves has triggered a 213 percent rise in surrendering of insurgents and their families in the past week in the North East.

The development was attributed to sustained military operations against terrorist groups.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Aching Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation Hadin Kai, said troops under Operation Hadin Kai have continued coordinated ground operations against terrorist positions while disrupting their logistics and supply routes.

The military said the increased surrender rate reflects growing willingness among some fighters and associates to abandon terrorism and follow established surrender procedures. Two high-profile terrorist members also reportedly surrendered to troops during the period, bringing weapons, ammunition and other military items.

The military further disclosed that other terrorists surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7 at New Abaram, following sustained operations and internal disagreements within their enclave. They were screened, while mobile phones and other items were recovered before they were handed over for further action.

The recovery of the weapons and ammunition, according to the Theatre Command, further indicates the impact of sustained military pressure on the the cohesion, morale and operational sustainability of terrorist elements.

According to the military, the development indicates that sustained pressure is affecting the terrorists’ capability, morale and cohesion, while restricting their ability to move, regroup and replenish supplies.

It encouraged terrorist fighters and their associates to abandon violence and take advantage of established surrender channels as part of efforts to restore security and achieve lasting peace and stability across the North-East.

Operation Hadin Kai said it would maintain pressure in terrorist groups while providing channels for those willing to surrender.
