Corps (NYSC) members wail after receiving alerts of N33,000 instead of N77,000 approved by the Nigerian Government

The NYSC members plaint after recieving N33k instead of N77k approved by the Nigerian Government On September 25, 2024 the federal government of Nigeria officially raised the monthly allowance for NYSC members, with effect from July 2024.

This revaluation aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which will considerably enhance the welfare package for corps members.

However, on October 2, 2024, the internet and specifically X ( Twitter ) is left buzzing with federal government’s refusal to fulfill their end of the bargain.Corp members have expressed displeasure, sharing screenshots of the 33k payment as opposed to the promised 77k, with some going as far as calling the government’s strategy ‘propaganda’

An X handler @Akureketical reiterated ; Federal government this is not our agreement o, You promised 77kKindwest wrote : APC is known for lies .. so na 33k NYSC finally pay corpers ??Lets continue watching big brother and act like theres no problem in this country

”Meanwhile, the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo has announced that his administration will begin payment of the N70, 000 new minimum wage from the end of October, 2024.The governor made the announcement during a parade ceremony to celebrate Nigeria’s sixty fourth Independence Day Celebration held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Tuesday.Governor Soludo who also announced that the free education policy will be available to senior students in all public schools in Anambra, assured that even with the binding resource constraint, his administration will continue to work very hard to deliver on the mandate in which he was elected two years ago.In his remarks, Soludo stated,

“Once again, we gather to celebrate Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary. Despite our trials and achievements, we have made significant progress.“While challenges abound, my message is one of hope: our tomorrow will be brighter than today.

I envision hope, prosperity, and joy. We come together to honor the dreams of our founding fathers and those leaders who raised our flag at independence. We remember the victims of hardship—those affected by poverty, malnutrition, and the sick who lacked adequate healthcare.”The governor emphasized that to create the Nigeria we envision, all citizens must unite for peace and abundance.

“With our collective resources, Nigeria can rise to be among the top five economies in the world. We are rich in human and material resources, and I see great potential in our youth.

Our hope is that where we may fall short, these children will rise to succeed. We must strive diligently to secure a better future for them and for Nigeria,” the governor urged.

“In Anambra, we are committed to an agenda with a deadline. Having been in office for thirty months, we are focused on delivering our administration’s five pillars of development. I take this opportunity to express gratitude to the Armed Forces and security agencies for their efforts in ensuring the safety of our state.

Today, we celebrate our past victories while looking forward to the future,” the governor continued.“Last Saturday, we fulfilled our promise to the people of Anambra by conducting local government elections.

It was a promise kept and was recognized as one of the most free and transparent elections. Notice for the election was given 48 days in advance, during which APGA campaigned throughout the state. For us, this election was a referendum.

I’m proud that the people of Anambra affirmed that Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra.”The governor expressed optimism about the future.“You sent a significant message last Saturday.

I would like to thank ANSIEC, the security agencies, and the eight other political parties that participated. The key takeaway is participation. We are committed to delivering the dividends of democracy. For me, at the state level, that means effective governance.

That’s the role we have embraced, and that’s the mandate you entrusted to us.”The governor then highlighted his administration’s policy of total free education and the implementation of a new minimum wage of 70,000 naira starting in October, aimed at uplifting all segments of society during these challenging times.

“We prioritize our children’s education, ensuring that all public school students enjoy free education.“Those who have already paid school fees should reclaim their payments; the government will cover the costs.

We will also continue to subsidize schools that have returned to church management. Currently, the government employs thousands of teachers in these schools, costing over 1 billion naira monthly, and we aim to maintain this partnership.

Additionally, we’ve identified 77 communities lacking government primary and secondary schools.“This is unacceptable; all children must have the opportunity to learn.

We call for collaboration to establish public schools in every community in Anambra. We regard education as vital for securing a bright future for our children. I conclude by urging you, ndị Anambra, to join us in this endeavor.

I reflect on the dreams of our founding fathers. Together, we can realize those dreams and even surpass them. Each of us has a role to play. Let us ask ourselves what we can do to improve Nigeria. United, we can achieve far more than we ever imagined,” he concluded.
