Former US Vice President and Democratic leader Kamala Harris has hinted at contesting the next US presidential elections in 2028 despite her defeat against the Republican Donald Trump in 2024.
In her latest interview that aired on Saturday, Harris, 61, said she was sure about the fact that the world would see a woman in charge in the White House “in their lifetime.” Something that has never happened in the country before.
When asked about her position on the matter, she said she could be the one, adding she has not finalised her decision to run for the next elections yet. “I am not done. I have lived my entire career a life of service, and it’s in my bones. And there are many ways to serve. I have not decided yet what I will do in the future beyond what I’m doing right now.”
When pushed over the polls being conducted in the country between her and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the next Presidential candidate of the Democrats, she said she never cared about the polls and surveys. Otherwise, she would not be sitting in the interview.
Harris became the democratic presidential nominee in 2024 after Joe Biden dropped out of the race following his disastrous debate with Trump. He stumbled over his own words and lost command over his own words, raising concerns about his age and fitness for office.
With the next presidential race three years away, political actors in the country have speculated that possible Democratic contenders in the 2028 election could include Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
