History was made again in Liberia as a Baptist Deacon His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai was inaugurated as the 26th President of Liberia on Monday 22nd January, 2024 in Monrovia in the presence of global leaders including the General Secretary, Baptist World Alliance (BWA), Rev. Dr. Elijah Brown, The General Secretary, All Africa Baptist Fellowship (AABF) Pastor Elias Apetogbo and the President, AABF and Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) Rev. Dr. Israel Akanji and others.
The global Baptist delegation earlier met with the new President on the eve of his inauguration for time of Prayers and counselling with special exhortation by Rev. Dr. Elijah Brown and Prayers were offered to the 79 years old President of the oldest republic in Africa.
Pastor Elias admonished the President and called this as ‘The Golden Redemption Time to redeem the image of Baptist family in governance’. The delegation offered a gift to the President. The president was also invited to the BWA Annual Gathering to be hosted in Lagos, Nigeria between 7th to 12th July, 2024. President Boakai thanked his Baptist family for the show of love and promised to represent Christ in his administration.
He also offered souvenirs that symbolized the Mission of his administration. Earlier on Sunday, 21st January, 2024, the leaders joined the President-elect for a thanksgiving Service at Effort Baptist Church, Monrovia. The service witnessed great outpouring of Worship, Words, Prayers, and wise counsels. The service was well attended by the President elect (His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr.) and his wife, the Vice President elect (Honorable Jeremiah Kpan Koung) and his wife (a Baptist member at Providence Baptist Church), the immediate Past Vice President (Mrs Charles Taylor), and former Presidents of Liberia (Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf).
The meetings were facilitated by the office of All Africa Baptist Fellowship through Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, The President of Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, also in attendance was the President of Sierra Leone Baptist Convention Rev. Dr. Joseph Samuel Formah. President of the North American Baptist Federation (NABF), Rev. Emmet Dunn, Rev. Dr. Olu Menjah (Immediate Past President of Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention) amongst others.
