President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the sum of $500 million for the modernization of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, infrastructure as part of efforts to improve Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The investment is expected to enhance airport facilities, improved passenger experience, boost operational efficiency, and strengthen the country’s position as a major aviation hub in West Africa.
The modernization project is also anticipated to create employment opportunities and support economic growth through increased air travel and commercial activities.
Government officials say the initiative forms part of broader efforts to upgrade critical infrastructure across the country and attract more local and foreign investment into the aviation industry.
The initiative follows the resolution of the long-running MMA2 concessions dispute and are expected to boost investors confidence while strengthening Lagos’s position as a leading aviation and commercial hub in Africa.
