

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the National honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Bill Gates, co-chair of Bill Gates Foundation.
The President conferred the honour on Gates in Lagos on Tuesday June 3, 2025.
The Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist received the award for his impactful work in health, education and poverty reduction, particularly Nigeria and across Africa.
The honour was conferred during Gates recent visit to Nigeria, where he met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other officials to discuss primary health care reforms.
Gates also participated in the Goalkeepers Nigeria event and held talks with local scientists and stakeholders non scaling Al-powered health solutions.
Describing his involvement in Africa as both a “moral responsibility and strategic investment”, Bill Gates reaffirmed his commitment to the continent
Through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, he has already committed $100 billion to global health and development, with plans to invest another $200 billion in Africa over the coming decades, depending on global economic conditions.
