President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to intensify efforts to rescue all citizens held captive by terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, while destroying all criminal hideouts across the country.
The Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday after a security meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which lasted more than three hours, reviewed the country’s security situation and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to Musa, the President emphasised that the presence of any terrorist or bandit camp anywhere in Nigeria would not be tolerated.
He said security agencies had been directed to strengthen their cooperation in tackling criminal activities and rescuing kidnapped victims, particularly in states facing persistent security challenges.
Tinubu also directed security agencies to ensure that the 2027 general elections are conducted peacefully, fairly, and transparently, without favouring any political party.
The minister said the President warned against intimidating voters or using security personnel to give any political party an unfair advantage.
Meanwhile, Musa disclosed that President Tinubu would soon commission approximately 10 newly acquired fighter jets and helicopters to strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigerian military.
He added that the Federal Government was recruiting additional security personnel, improving training and equipment, and reviewing the welfare of serving and retired security officers.
The Defence Minister also urged Nigerians to provide security agencies with credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and other criminal activities across the country.
