Tinubu’s Reforms Rescued States from Bankruptcy, Easing Hardship – Daniel Bwala

*When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office, 26 states were barely surviving—struggling to pay salaries and on the verge of financial collapse.

But today, that story has changed. According to Dr. Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Media & Policy Communications, increased revenue from President Tinubu’s policies and has pulled these states back from the brink.

“Governors now have the funds they need—no more excuses. It’s time for them to deliver on their promises,” Bwala said during an interview on TVC.Beyond saving states from bankruptcy, the President’s bold reforms are designed to make life easier for everyday Nigerians in the long term.

Student loans through NELFUND are already helping young and indigent people get the education they deserve, while food prices are gradually reducing and sharply at that. The Government’s focus on economic empowerment, security, and entrepreneurship is opening new doors for citizens to thrive. Local governments will, from this month, begin to receive funds directly in order to be able to fix local infrastructures. “People expect the President to do everything, but local leaders must step up,

” Bwala stressed. Tinubu’s government, he assured, is not about empty talk but real, lasting change that benefits Nigerians at all levels. The President believes one of the key elements of the Renewed Hope administration’s reforms is ensuring that development reaches the grassroots.

With direct financial autonomy granted to local governments, funds meant for community projects no longer get stuck in state bureaucracies. This means that local councils now have the financial power to fix dilapidated schools, improve healthcare centers, and build critical infrastructure without waiting for state governors to approve budgets.

Yet, despite this breakthrough, Bwala expressed concern that some state leaders are not being held accountable for these funds. He urged Nigerians to demand transparency at all levels, noting that the President can not singlehandedly monitor every road project, school renovation, or healthcare improvement.

Bwala also addressed concerns about the speed of change, emphasizing that true transformation takes time. He pointed to concrete progress in security, where targeted actions are reducing banditry and economic empowerment, where consumer credit initiatives are helping Nigerians start businesses and improve their livelihoods.

“President Tinubu’s approach is not about quick fixes or false promises—it’s about laying a strong foundation for lasting prosperity,” he said. With bold reforms already taking effect, he assured Nigerians that the Renewed Hope agenda is on course to deliver real dividends in the months ahead.
