Sunday, August 25, a tragic accident occurred in Jos North commuinity of Plateau State, where a man and his wife were crushed to death by a moving trailer while returning from Sunday’s Church service.

The victims, identified as Mr Friday Ajiji and Mrs Charity Ajiji, couple, and members of Ruhaniya Baptist Church, located at Fudawa Road, Jos North Local Government Area of the state were riding on a motorcycle when they were eventually hit by a moving trailer that lost its control.

The trailer, reportedly loaded with goods was on transit when the driver lost control and ran over the couple at the ever-busy Cele Bridge, along Ring Road in Jos North local government area of Plateau State.

Security operatives quickly arrived at the scene to maintain order, as youths from the area, angered by the incident, demanded to know the contents of goods conveyed.

Some of the youths attempted to set the vehicle ablaze, but security forces who were attached to the area, dispersed them by shots into the air.

However, the incident has sparked reactions and raised so many questions about the enforcement of the Plateau State Governor’s Executive Order 003, which restricts trucks and other heavy duty vehicles from gaining entrance into the city’s central area (Jos-Bukuru) between 6am and 9pm.

The Executive Order 003 reads: “Trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles are hereby restricted from coming into the Central Business Area (Jos-Bukuru metropolis) from the hours of 6am-9pm, vehicles of defaulters shall be impounded and the drivers of same shall be liable to pay a fine of N500,000.00 (Five hundred thousand naira only), areas referred to are as contained in the schedule attached to the Order”.

With the Order, residents are pondering and worried, if the law is still visible or enforced appropriately as stipulated.
