In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the vibrant and brilliant final-year student of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Mbah Ezinne, has tragically lost her life, leaving her friends and family in shock and sorrow. Known for her radiant smile and lively presence, Ezinne was a student in the Department of Anatomy and a cherished member of her church community.
Ezinne’s friends and acquaintances remember the last moments they shared with her during a praise night at their church. Little did they know that this gathering would mark the final time they would see her. Filled with fond memories of laughter, camaraderie, and shared moments, her friends struggle to come to terms with the sudden absence of someone so full of life.
Recollections of that fateful weekend reveal the sequence of events that unfolded. After the praise night on Friday, the group dispersed around 4 am on Saturday. In preparation for the upcoming youth day on Sunday, Ezinne made a new hairstyle and was looking forward to the festivities. Tragically, fate had other plans.
As Sunday dawned and the church service began, friends and family attempted to reach Ezinne through calls, only to find her phone continuously unreachable. Concerned about her absence and silence, worry grew among those who knew her. Efforts to contact her persisted, but her phone remained off throughout the morning, deepening the sense of unease.
Worried for her safety and wellbeing, her brother embarked on a journey to her residence in Enugu. Arriving in the afternoon, he made a grim discovery. Peering through her window, he found Ezinne and a male friend, who happened to be her coursemate, lying lifeless on the ground. Overwhelmed by shock and disbelief, he took desperate measures to access the apartment.
Seeking assistance from neighbors, he was advised to involve the police before any further action could be taken. The local authorities were summoned, and the victims were rushed to the hospital. Tragically, Ezinne had already passed away, while her male friend clung to life with medical intervention.
In an unexpected twist, Ezinne’s brother found himself under scrutiny by law enforcement. The police questioned him, citing the broken entrance door and the possession of Ezinne’s iPhone as evidence. After spending two days in custody, he was eventually released, yet the loss and confusion remain.
As the community mourns the loss of a promising young life, questions loom about the circumstances leading to this tragedy. With the male friend’s condition stabilizing, hope remains that he will recover and be able to provide insight into the events that transpired that weekend.
