
In an incredibly tragic turn of events, what was meant to be joyful and memorable day has turned into mourning, as SP Garba Mustapha Gumau a respected officer of the Nigerian Police Force, lost his life in a fatal car accident just hours before his wedding ceremony.
The late officer was to be on his way from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, for his wedding fatiha slated for 10am on Saturday April 14, but died around 9 am same day, (one hour to wedding) when the vehicle conveying him and his friends crashed.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle carrying the groom and his friends veered off the road and crashed, killing him and two others -Shaibu Umar and Suleiman Musa – on the spot.
Several other occupants of the vehicle were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to reports, Three hours before the incident, he had taken to social media to share a heartfelt post: “The day has come”.
Tragically, the post has now become a haunting final message, marking not a new beginning, but the end of a promising life.
Friends – family, and colleagues have been left utter shock and grief, as they prepare to gather in celebration but were instead met with devastating news of his passing.
SP Mustapha was known for his dedication to duty, humility, and commitment to peace and justice in the communities he served.
9News Nigeria reports that the tragic loss has thrown the communities of Gumau and Magaman-Gumau into mourning, as many were seen in a deep sober reflections.
When contacted, the spokesman of Bauchi Police Command could not be reached as his line was unreachable.
However, tribute have since poured in from across the country, with many describing the incident as a painful reminder of a fragility of life.
