Two brothers, identified as Sadiq Isyaku and Auwalu Isyaku, have tragically lost their lives after drowning in water channel in the Kureken Sani area in Kano.
The incident was confirmed on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, in an official statement.
According to Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call on Friday from a resident, Mohammed Abba, reporting that two youths had fallen into a body of water in the area.
Fire Service personnel immediately rushed to the scene and retrieved the victims from the water, but they were found unresponsive.
Medical personnel later confirmed that the two brothers had died.
Abdullahi said the bodies were later handed over to their father at Ungwan Uku for burial.
Preliminary findings by Fire Service indicates that the two brothers had jumped into the water while trying to escaped from suspected phone snatchers who were chasing them in an attempt to rob them.
