Tragedy struck on Sunday evening, June 22, 2025, when a Benue Links, a commercial bus was ambushed by suspected by suspected gunmen at Eke, a community along the Otukpo – Otukpa road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The vehicle, with registration number 14B-143BN, was en route from Abeokuta to Makurdi with 12 passengers and driver when it comes under brutal attack around 6:30 p.m. by suspected gunmen.
The attackers ambushed the bus, dispossessed passengers of their belongings and then forcibly took them into the nearby forest.
Comrade Austin Agada, Benue State APC Chairman who was passing by shortly after the incident, play a critical role in triggering an immediate response as he alerted military and police personnel who swiftly mobilized to the scene to commence search and rescue operations.
Efforts are currently ongoing to rescue the abducted passengers.
