The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday met with former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of 2027 general election.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, reports, indicate the discussions centered on the recent Federal High Court judgment that dismissed audit filed by the party’s Board of Trustees seeking to complete the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC).
The meeting comes months after the Turaki-led faction announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following the ratification of his candidacy at a special national convention.
However, the PDP remains divided, with the faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike continuing to be recognised by INEC.
9News Nigeria reports that the faction had announced the former president in absentia as its presidential candidate in next year’s general election.
Jonathan was not present at the event where his nomination was formally ratified.
Despite being announced as the faction’s presidential candidate, Jonathan had not publicly declared interest in running for the presidency in 2027.
Recall that May 7, Jonathan said he would consult widely before deciding whether to run in 2027 election, after group of protesters stormed his Abuja office and urged him to declare for presidency.
