CHRISTIANS AND FEAR
When the word of God is as sweet as honey, the vanities of the world will be bitter as aloes. No daily meal is complete without the “Bread Of Life”. Human supposition can never take the place of divine revelation. A lot of Christians are living on crackers and cheese when God has prepared three square meals a day for them.
WHAT IS FEAR?
- Fear is a feeling of distress, dread or alarm usually caused by the possibility of something dangerous, painful or frightening happening.
- Fear is the same as alarm, dread, apprehensiveness, fright, horror, panic, terror or trepidation.
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, and of the son of a man who will be made like grass? And you forget the Lord your Maker, Who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth;
you have feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he has prepared to destroy. And where is the fury of the oppressor”(Isaiah 51:12-13)?
TWO GREAT SNARES OF HUMANITY
- The Fear Of Man (Prov 29:25 / Matt 10:28)
- The Praise Of Man (Lk 6:26 / John 5:44 / 12:43 / Rom 2:29)
Many people are fearful of heights, fearful of losing their jobs and fearful of safety.
FIVE THINGS WE ARE NOT TO BE AFRAID
1) Man (Matt 10:26-31 / Ezk 3:9)
Do not be afraid of man who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear God who can kill both body and soul in hell.
2) False gods (Judges 6:10 / 1 Sam 17:36)
Also I said to you, I am the Lord your God, do not fear the gods of Amorites.
3) Do not fear reproach of men (Isa 51:7)
Do not fear the reproach of men nor be afraid of their insults.
4) Sudden fear (Prov 3:25)
Do not be afraid of sudden terror nor of trouble.
5) Persecutions (Rev 2:10)
Do not be afraid of persecution. When you are tested and tried, be an overcomer.
THE CAUSES OF FEAR
There are 7 things that brings fear in individual lives:
1) Natural vision (Num 13:33 / 1 Sam 17:25)
2) Natural reasoning (2 Kings 6:15-16 / 1 Sam 17:33)
3) Bad reports (Num 13:31-32)
4) Wrong association (Judges 7:3)
5) Words of threat (1 Sam 17:11)
6) Trouble and anguish (Job 15:24)
7) Terror brings fear (Job 18:11)
Saints of God, do not fear for the Lord is your Shield and Fortress.
