The acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the popular Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi Anambra State Associate Prof. Joseph Ugboaja on Thursday the 25th day of March 2021 addressed pressmen at his office while marking his two months in office as the acting CMD.
Associate Prof. Ugboaja resumed office as the acting Chief Medical Director on 25th January 2021 after the expiration of the tenure of Prof. Anthony Igwegbe. In a media chat chat with gentlemen of the press, the acting CMD expressed his gratitude to God for the opportunity to work for humanity through the health sector. He appreciated the corporation of all hospital stakeholders, staff and host community in ensuring improvements in the hospital system for the past sixty days.
Answering questions from the newsmen, he took time to narrate the situations on ground before he took over and thereafter highlighted recent developments in the hospital through his managerial leadership and team. Associate Professor Ugboaja said his administration was within the last two months initiated the movement of all the clinics to the permanent site,construction of access roads at the permanent site,renovation of the accident and emergency unit which is ongoing. He also reported that construction and equipping of a new CSSD unit,expansion of the ICU, expansion of the children emergency unit are ongoing courtesy of his administration. The acting CMD said his administration through the NCDC attracted the construction of a new isolation center,construction of a new molecular laboratory.
When asked his plans for the hospital, he maintained that his vision is to transform NAUTH to rank among the best five(5) hospitals in the country through massive infrastructural development of the permanent site, acquisition of the state of art equipment and human capital development. He explained that he is ready to achieve his mission for the hospital which is to offer cutting edge medical services by well trained and motivated staff using cutting edge technology, in the most modern hospital environment.
There is no doubt that Associate Prof. Joseph Ugboaja is equipped and ready to transform the hospital to be among the best. Investigation showed that he has taken the best path in achieving the vision and mission of the hospital.
A staff who spoke to the press said they are pleased with the developments taking place, she thanked the acting CMD for his innovative approaches towards the hospital management. An out-patient who spoke to the press also eulogized the workaholic acting CMD for the massive developments happening in the hospital.
Recall that Associate Prof Joseph Ugboaja took over the office as acting CMD and has demonstrated high level of dedication and intervention since January 2021. He is indeed taking the hospital to a greater height.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi is a Federal University teaching hospital with extensions in different parts of Anambra state. It is situated in the industrial city Nnewi.
