Two local vigilante members have been killed after gunmen numbering over 100 invaded Lagarasa, a village within the Rantya community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A resident Pam Bok, who witnessed the incident told 9News Nigeria in Jos that the attackers arrived on motorcycles, firing sporadically as they attempted to enter the community from the Lagarasa axis.
He explained that the local vigilante members quickly mobilized to repel the invasion and protect residents. However, they were reportedly overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the attackers.
The confrontation resulted in the death of two vigilante members, while ike the situation has raised fresh concerns over security in communities across Plateau State.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack, while residents have called for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent further violence and safeguard lives and property in the area.
