The U.S Embassy in Abuja has issued a security alert warning of a potential terrorist threat targeting American facilities and US-affiliated schools across Nigeria.
The alert, released on Monday, advises U.S citizens living in or visiting Nigeria to exercise heightened vigilance.
The warning specifically targets students, families, and staff connected to U.S facilities and schools.
The Embassy urged citizens to vary travel routes and schedules, remain aware of their surroundings, avoid predictable routines, and stay alert in public spaces.
Citizens were also advised to avoid crowds and demostrations, keep phones charged, and familiarize themselves with emergency exits at buildings they visit.
While the alert does not provide details about the source of timing of the threat, such warnings are usually issued based on intelligence indicating possible risks to U.S personnel or assets.
The Embassy’s advisory covers the U.S Embassy in Abuja, the U.S Consulate in Lagos, and American – affiliated schools across the country. Despite the warning, consular services remain operational, and citizens are encouraged to monitor official updates and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrolment Program (STEP) for real-time alerts and guidance.
