The women of Umuoma Autonomous community in Owerri West local government area of Imo state, under the auspices of Umuoma women Association (UWA) has applauded their chairperson, Lady Maureen Uka -Ochinanwata on the successful year 2025 women August meeting conference.
The August Conference is a yearly ritual celebrated among the women folk across the states of the federation targeted at accessing the strength and resilience of Women across rural communities as reported by 9News Nigeria.
Speaking at the conference, Chairperson Maureen Ukah highlighted the importance of women annual gathering which is aimed at brainstorming on the possible ways to tackling bedevilling challenges in Umuoma Autonomous community.
Emphasizing on the Theme, “Building Bridges, Overcoming Barriers”, Mrs Maureen stated categorically the virtues of womanhood. She added that Umuoma women are special creatures and their yearly conference was to address the issues that may likely divide them and to fortify the connections that unite the women.
Umuoma women in their lovely mindedness, engaged in open dialogue about their building challenges that included health care, restoration of peace among the association of women, Okam /Ikea women saga, highjack of women customized uniform, family unity and love amongst the generality of women living in the area.
Reeling out the achievement of Umuoma women under her watch, 9News Nigeria discovered the following feats recorded; The registration of WASSCE for 10 children in the community which was facilitated by the amiable Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede-Basilia Igbokwe. Building of lock -up shops, registration of the association at the LGA council, connectivity to NEPA power supply, regular routine sanitation and cleaning, today’s launching meant for Civic center fence project.
Eulogizing the women, HRH Eze Morrison Eke PhD, spoke eloquently on the women achievements and called for peaceful co-existence in Umuoma community. The traditional ruler prayed for His subjects and hinted plans for the resolution of challenging demands across the community.
Eze Omadike used this public gathering of dignitaries across all works of life in Umuoma to lift certain lingering ban on suspension notice marauding within the Umuoma central leadership, and pleaded with the UPA to reciprocate.
The year 2025 Umuoma women conference under the leadership of Mrs Maureen Uka recorded a huge success with an intimidating attendance. The women were dressed in colourful sexy wrapper attire while series of presentations alongside cutting of conference cake, award taken cum recognitions, special dance, anthem were observed accordingly.
The highlight of the event was the conferment of “NNE OMA” award on Mama Comfort Ikpe- the eldest woman in Umuoma Nekede at 105 years.
Past and present women leaders showed presence and participation among who is, an indigenous teacher per -excellence (rtd) and respected Lady of St Christopher, Anglican communion, Lady Gloria Opara. Lady Gloria Opara represented the women teachers at the conference held Saturday 23rd August, 2025 at Umuoma Civic Centre Nekede.
Dignitaries too numerous to mention attended the conference, which included, The seer- High Chief prophet Dom Daniel Anyanwu, Dr Chima Mathew Amadi -ably represented, SP Ikemereh Charles PhD- DPO Umuoma Police Division, UgoEze Chinyere Eke, Mr Anthony Ezenwa- Exclusive Hotel and Suites.
Also sighted by 9News Nigeria were, Hon. Councillor representing Nekede Ward -7, Olekibe Victor Ugochukwu, ably represented by his wife Mrs Patience Olekibe, Traditional Prime Minister , recognized Trade Unionist and retired Perm Sec -Nze Sir Chris Aharanwa (Akaraugo), Royal Cabinet Chairman -High Chief Patrick Nwaneri, Town Chairmen, Youth chairmen, community leaders, traditional title holders, clergy and the Umuoma central leadership (UPA) Excos ,led by Chief Okechukwu Opara. The women conference ended in grand style.
