Students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ekehuan Campus staged a protest on Saturday morning, blocking the school gate after enduring a three-day power outage and lack of water.
Many students say they’ve been without light or running water despite paying fees, and the ongoing shortage left hostel in crisis.
Others raised security concerns, alleging that the prolong outage had exposed students to risks.
They claimed that unidentified individual armed with a cutlass attempted to gain access to female hostel on Friday night -injuring a student before fleeing.
Adesina Ayinde, deputy Vice Chancellor in-charge of the Ekehuan Campus, addressed the protesting students and said arrangements had been concluded to restore supply, while efforts were ongoing to resolve the electricity problems.
Despite, the assurances, the students insisted the gate would remain shut until water was fully restored, however, Senior Staff were still in talks with the protesters.
