Two water factories producing untreated water in communities in Aluu town of Ikwerre Local Government Area are now sealed up.

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC shut down the factories on Wednesday.

The factories were also closed down for failure register their business entities legally in Rivers State.

Public Relations Officer of NAFDAC in the South-South Zone, Port Harcourt, Cyril Monye said the agency got credible information about the illegal activities.

In a statement, he emphasised that the facilities lacked requisite approval and registration from NAFDAC because there was no NAFDAC number printed on the sachets.

The statement further said that workers at the factories fled as they sighted officials of NAFDAC.

Notwithstanding, the statement said equipment were confiscated with packs of sachet water seen around destroyed.

“The owners were apprehended, and over one truckload of sachet water intended for distribution was destroyed, leading to the closure of the factories.”
