Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has directed former Local Government Chairmen in the state to hand over all government property in their possession to the Director of Administration in their respective Local Government Areas.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmos Iwu.
According to the statement, the directive followed the expiration of the tenures of Local Government Chairmen and Councillors across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
Chief Iwu said all handover and takeover formalities are to be concluded on or before the close of work on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The statement added that former officials who wish to contest the next local government elections are free to indicate their interest, provided they fulfil all requirements stipulated by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission.
Governor Uzodimma, on behalf of the Imo State Government and the people of the state, expressed appreciation to the former Chairmen and Councillors for their services to the state.
