Onitsha, Anambra – The commercial capital of Anambra State, Onitsha, was brought to a standstill on Saturday, December 5, 2020 as one of Nigeria’s leading non-governmental organizations, Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) Foundation held the second edition of its fitness exercise programme tagged, “VCO Walk4Peace”.
The epoch-making event attracted over one thousand indigenes and residents of Anambra State, with the procession taking off at Shoprite shopping mall, before moving through to Onitsha North Local Government Area then to Ozara Road to DMGS Roundabout, Ekene Junction, Ugwu N’bankpa Road, Savoy Road, Awka Road and back to Shoprite shopping mall.
VCO Walk4Peace is a health awareness exercise, aimed at promoting peace, unity, bridge-building, and the spirit of community, sponsored by Valentine Ozigbo, a leading gubernatorial aspirant in the 2021 Anambra elections.
While addressing the vibrant crowd at the event, Mr. Ozigbo expressed satisfaction with the turnout for the event.
Ozigbo, the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, used the opportunity to stress the importance of peace and unity to progress in any society.
“The significance of peace to the development of any people cannot be overstated. Without peace, there cannot be any meaningful progress, so it pertinent for us to continue to emphasize unity, brotherhood, and togetherness, if we are to grow as a people,” Mr. Ozigbo said.
He went on to speak on the importance of keeping fit and how it impacts the health and general wellbeing of an individual.
“Asides promoting good health, we have also identified the need to encourage oneness and a sense of community among the people of the Anambra.”
The respected business leader seized the opportunity to thank all the participants and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who added colour to the event with their presence.
The event was graced by several top-ranking members of the PDP in Anambra State including members of the state executive, working committee, and supporters of Mr. Ozigbo.
