Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Friday, promised more dividends of Democracy as his administration clocks 5 years in office today, 29th May 2020.
Umahi said he is looking at completing the international which is currently under construction by 2021.
Governor David Umahi who spoke at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki, the state capital said he has appraised himself within the last 5 years, assuring that the state under his administration will deliver more democratic dividends, complete more projects and ensure overall good governance in the state.
“We have studied all our programs from the Development Centres to the local government and the state.
“We will compile all God has used us to achieve within the last 5 years and will publish the same for the world to see.
“Covid-19 came with a challenge, and also with opportunities.
“This has shown we Africans can create our own medical institutions and think of developing our technology in terms of agriculture and medicine.
“Ebonyi people are going to work in this direction. Basically, we are working on manufacturing dialyzers, which is going to be the first of its kind in Africa.
“It is going to be for the treatment of diabetic patients, we have made payments to a Swiss company in Switzerland”, he said.
According to him, the airport project and other critical infrastructures in the state will be completed to give the state an international outlook.
“We are also looking at the completion of our airport, and by May 29, 2021, it shall be fully ready.
“The Teaching Hospital will be ready and the stadium, we must also have completed it.
“We are not going back on the dualization of the Abakaliki to Afikpo and Abakaliki to Enugu Highways.
“Our biggest project is the completion of the 35 kilometers road running from Ntezi to Agba to Isu, a total of 10 kilometers have so far been completed. And within the next few months, we will complete it,
“The Ring Road Project is also another key point in our administration and we believe strongly that by August this year, we will start work.
“It might interest you to know we have done 30 kilometers out of the 199 kilometers of the Ring Road on our own”.
Governor Umahi further explained that “the fund from the African Development Bank will be used to complete the “remaining sections of the road”.
He said contrary to insinuations by the opposition party that the Ring Road Project is a conduit pipe for siphoning resources, the fund used for the project is domiciled in CBN.
“Let those criticizing us criticize constructively. The money for the Ring Road is warehoused in Central Bank and supervised by the African Development Bank,
“Our financial transactions are in the public domain. We have not obtained any foreign loan. You may wish to visit the website of the Ebonyi State Government and Debt Management Office and you will see both domestic and foreign loans for each state. We don’t have any debt in Ebonyi State”.
The Ebonyi State Governor assured of better days ahead in the state.
“It is our commitment to leave Ebonyi State without debt and our commitment to ensure that it is lifted out of the years of neglect.
“If you say we are poor, it is not important, what is important is what we are doing to get out of it?
With many years of deprivation, this is what we cannot forget in a hurry, God working through us, we have been able to challenge those years of neglect, years of underdevelopment, years we were called Dust of The Nation, today, we are the Salt of the Nation.
“We are not people to be pitied and we don’t run on sentiments. The years of pity, neglect, and sorrow are gone.
We don’t work on blackmail, but on reality.
“We are working in line with the Federal Government and World Bank policies for rejigging the economy.
“Nobody can put us down, we are unique species”.
