Wealthy Nigerians have been charged to use part of their riches to promote the work of God.
The admonition came from the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited / The Publisher of The AUTHORITY newspapers, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
Dr Ubah, who spoke in Lagos on Sunday, particularly urged the affluent Nigerians to spend some of their resources on evangelical missions.
In a message he sent at the unveiling of flags of some popular football clubs at the All Saints Anglican Church, FESTAC Town, Lagos, to raise funds for the church’s forthcoming 2016 Harvest Thanksgiving, Ubah noted that riches come from God and should be used to serve Him.
He said what gives him the greatest joy is having the opportunity to contribute to the work of God, adding that he is ever ready to support the church whenever he is called upon to do so.
While promising to be present at the event-proper, Ubah said that “Nigeria is going through a very difficult time now so we need to get closer to God and ask for His mercy and blessings.”
The clubs, whose flags were unveiled at the event, were Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona, Super Eagles, Super Falcons, Rangers International, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, All Saints Football Club, Diocese of Lagos West and September Babies FC.
The event attracted dignitaries and fans of the various clubs, including former Super Eagles’ Captain, Mr. Sylvanus Okpala, who unveiled the flag of the Super Eagles.
In his sermon during the service, which was also used to mark the end of the Youth Week of the church, Rev. Ope Ibikunle advised younger Nigerians to focus on heaven and avoid all forms of distractions.
The clergyman, who quoted extensively from Philippians Chapter 3, said it was unfortunate that the devil was now using the youths to perpetrate his evil deeds.

Ibikunle said: “This is a generation that lays emphasis on money; where integrity has been pushed to the background. The youths have become symbols of indiscipline. This is a generation that does not want to work and yet wants to have plenty of money.”
He said that the devil has capitalised on the weapon of Christ, which is the youths, to invade the world.
The cleric stressed that “whatever you do, let heaven be your goal. Do not be distracted so that you don’t lose your focus which is heaven. If you make all the money and fame and you are not at peace with God, you have lost it all.”
