The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made its first reaction to the news that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will be contesting the 2023 presidency in Nigeria.
It will be recalled as previously reported by Naija News that Adamu Abubakar, one of the sons of the former vice-president, made the disclosure on Atiku’s interest in contesting the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking while presenting the one-year score card of his ministry as the Commissioner for Works and Energy in Adamawa State, Adamu said his father will run for president again in 2023.
He said: “Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with my father contesting for the presidency.
“In 2023, my father will be aspiring to the number one office in the land because he has been an astute, strategic, master politician for almost four decades.”
Recall Atiku contested and lost the 2019 presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes, while Atiku got 11,262,978 votes.
However, the PDP has noted that only zoning will determine the fate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.
This position was stated by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan while addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja.
Ologbondiyan said, “The PDP has not come to discussion in respect of zoning. I want to leave it at that.”
Meanwhile, the PDP spokesperson also noted that Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and other aggrieved chieftains of APC are welcome to join the party ahead of the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state.
