The White House has reaffirmed the United States government’s position that it officially recognises only two genders: male and female.
The position was restated in Saturday, November 7, 2026, in a post on the White House’s official X account, reinforcing President Donald Trump’s policy on biological sex.
The statement underscores Trump’s long-held stance on gender identity and his administration’s policy of recognizing biological sex as either male and female in the federal government operations.
Trump cemented this position on January 20, 2025, with an executive order titled: Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to Federal Government.
The directive also distinguishes biological sex from gender identity, rejecting the recognition of other gender identities in federal government policy.
The position remains a subject of political, legal and social debate in the United States.
The executive order was part of Trump’s wider effort to roll back federal measures introduced by his predecessor, Joe Biden, which recognized gender identity across several areas of government policy
According to the post, the White House’s latest statement reaffirms the “administration’s position on an issue that has remained a major subject of political and social debate in the United States”
