AWKA (9News Nigeria) A woman was reportedly apprehended at Divine Mercy Hospital, Awada, Onitsha, in Anambra State after allegedly attempting to steal children from the facility while posing as a nurse.
According to information gathered by 9News Nigeria, the suspect’s plan was foiled when hospital staff became suspicious of her movements and conduct within the hospital premises. Concerned by her activities, members of staff reportedly alerted a doctor, who subsequently questioned the woman.
Witnesses said the suspect appeared confused during the questioning. Some individuals present at the scene allegedly identified her as a woman previously linked to attempts to steal children in the area and who had reportedly evaded arrest on earlier occasions before resurfacing at Divine Mercy Hospital.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, has generated concern among residents and hospital visitors, with many calling for heightened security measures around healthcare facilities, particularly maternity and pediatric units.
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts by a 9News Nigeria correspondent in Awka to reach the Commissioner of Police for comments were unsuccessful.
