Investigation has revealed that there is ongoing alleged massive fraud and extortions going on in Imo State College of Nursing and Midwifery Orlu. Ifeanyi Nwanguma stated in his report that Ag Provost and some government appiontees are involved in the deals.
Meanwhile the Ag.Provost of the institution, Mrs. Hannah Offor and some political appointees of Governor Hope Uzodinma have been fingered in the massive fraud and extortions which took place in the College as a result of Entrance Examination of the College which took place on Wednesday 6th of April, 2022.
Newmen reliably gathered that over six hundred and fifty applicants who sat for the Entrance Examination paid # 19,800 for Entrance Fee and 10,500 for interview respectively which many considered fraudulent .
This development, according to a Source at Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria NMCN, is a huge fraud and total extortion of the intending students by the Ag. provost and the involved Imo State Government appointees.
The Source who also framed at the abuse of carrying capacity of the institution by the Ag.Provost, Mr Offor, however condemmed the payment of 10,500 for interview by the 650 applicants, describing the action of Ag Provost as fraud and shear extortion.
According to the Source , ” The entrance Examination that took place in Imo State College of Nursing and Midwifery Orlu on 6th Wednesday April 2022 was fraudulent and the State Government should investigate the Ag Provost, Mrs Offor and the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health. The standard practice for entrance examination for Nursing and Midwifery institutions in Nigeria was totally disregarded and abused. The acceptable practice is entrance examination first and the successful applicants according to the quota or carrying capacity of the Institution will pay interview fee.
So, the question is, will the Ag. Provost invite 650 applicants for interview when the institution admission capacity or quota per session is between fifty and sixty students? Nursing and Midwifery is a very sensitive profession, so why collecting interview money from over 650 applicants when she knew it is impossible to admit more than sixty students? “
” You can calculate 10,500 by 600 applicants you will see that the fraud runs in millons of Naira, EFCC should investigate Mrs Hannah Offor and the Permanent Secretary of Minstry of Health immediately. With this development, admission Racketeering must take place because the institution admission capacity has been seriously abused.”
When Starpost Express Newspaper visited the institution, a concerned student said that the institution has been turned into secondary school as academic standard is now zero, adding that 80% of the students have no index numbers which implies that NMCN is not aware of their presence in the institution.
Further investigations showed that the applicants were directed to pay the 10,500 into UBA account allegedly owned by the Ag Provost while some came to the school on entrance examination day with cash.
A management Staff of the institution who pleaded anonymity accused some appointees of Governor Hope Uzodimma of covering the ugly activities of the Ag. Provost , Mrs Hannah Offor, even when they knew her actions is gradually destroying the institution academic history, insisting that some appointees of Shared Prosperity Government are benefiting from the ongoing fraud and extortions in the State Government owned Nursing and Midwifery institution.
All efforts made to get the reaction of the Ag Provost, Mrs Hannah Offor proved abortive as she warned Starpost Express Newspaper never to call her again.
However, by the time of going to Press, the Commissioner for Health, Imo State, Dr Proper Ohayaha-Success is yet to respond to the question sent to him by Starpost Express Newspaper regarding the ongoing massive fraud and extortions in the institution he is supervising.
