A Senior Advocate if Nigeria(SAN) Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, has emerged as the 36th President if the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA).
Maikyau emerged the new NBA president during the association’s election.
According to Prof Ayodele Akintunde, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, who announced the results of the election on sunday 17th July in Abuja declared Maikyau the winner of the election which was conducted online.
Maikyau polled a total of 22,342 votes to defeat his closest rival, Joe- Kyari Gadzama, (SAN), Chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee who polled 10,842 votes and Mr Taidi Jonathan former General Secretary of the NBA who came a distant third after scoring a total of 1,373 votes.
Maikyau succeeds Olumide Apata who made history as the only NBA president in the past 10 years who was not a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
