A Yobe State High Court sitting in Damaturu has sentenced 45-year-old Abubakar Musa, popularly known as Daddy, to death by hanging for the killing of his wife, Ammi Mamman, in 2024.
The High Court delivered the verdict on Wednesday, about two years after the crime was committed.
Musa was apprehended on January 4, 2024, by operatives of Yobe State Police Command over killing of his wife at New Bra-Bra Housing Estate, Damaturu, and was arraigned for culpable homicide.
In a judgment, the court dismissed the non-guilty plea entered by the defendants, holding that it could not stand in the face of credible evidence presented before the court.
The judge ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, establishing all the necessary elements of the offence.
Consequently, the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging.
The judgement provides that the the convict may file an appeal within the legally allowed timeframe, otherwise the sentence will be executed, therefore, Musa retains the right to appeal the conviction and sentence within the period allowed by law.
