Yobe Orders Closure Of School Over Boko Haram Attack

Yobe State Government has directed immediate closure of Government Girl’s Secondary School, Dapchi in Bursari Local Government Area of the state, following an attack on the school by suspected Boko Haram insurgents Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammed Alami, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen, said that the closure of the school had become necessary after the attacks and due to food items stolen from the school by the suspected Boko Haram members.

Although, he said there was no abduction of any of the students, he insisted that it would rather be too hasty for him to comment further on that, stressing that “we are working to find out the number of students who are not on the register.”

He went on: “Let me tell you that as of now we do not have any information regarding abduction of any of the students by the Boko Haram sect.

“We have received a directive from the state government to close the school and allow the parents to take their children back home until peace returned to the school.

A substantial food items were carted away by the attackers.” However, Commissioner of Police for Yobe State Command, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu, who confirmed the attack on the school by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, said that Boko Haram members stormed the town by 6:52pm and started shooting sporadically into the air before security operatives were mobilised to the location.
