Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has questioned the political calculations behind the reported vice presidential ambition of former Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike made the comments on Tuesday 4 August, 2026 during a media chat, where he challenged Amaechi’s expectation of receiving support from Rivers State and the wider South-South region despite his past political decisions.
“Jonathan, your brother from the South-South, wanted a second term, you boldly came out and kicked him out. Now you want Rivers and South-South people to kick you in?” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor argued that political actions have consequences, suggesting that the people of the region would consider past events when deciding who to support in future elections.
Amaechi, who served as Rivers State governor from 2007 to 2015 and later as Minister of Transportation, was a key figure in the opposition campaign that produced the victory of the Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
