Ogun State government has described the remarkable display of talent and performance of Master Oluwatimileyin Doko at the African Scrabble Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, as exemplary.
In a statement released from the Office of the Commissioner for Sports Development, the Commissioner, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, on behalf of the Ogun State government, extended congratulations to Master Oluwatimilehin Doko, for his outstanding achievement as the newly crowned African Scrabble Champion in Kigali, Rwanda.
Hon. Isiaka stated that the continuous efforts of the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to the development of sports in the state caused athletes in the state to excel on national and international stages, expressing confidence that Doko’s triumph would inspire other youths to exhibit their potential.
“Doko, who is also the number one player of the Ogun State Scrabble Association, in a remarkable display of talent, defeated fellow Ogun State player and Team Nigeria colleague, Abdulmumin Jimoh, in the penultimate game, showcasing the depth of talent that the State continues to produce.
“Timilehin’s remarkable performance in the 32-round championship is a testament to his hard work and dedication, clinching the title with a game to spare. We are immensely proud of Timilehin and our talented representatives, who are members of Team Ogun in the upcoming National Sports Festival, tagged, “Gateway Games 2024”.
“The new African Champion, Doko’s exceptional skills and strategic prowess on the board have earned him the prestigious Continental Champion (CC) badge, a medal presented to champions, after competing against the best on the African continent.
“Other notable Ogun State players representing Nigeria alongside Timilehin in Kigali, include Adebola Samuel, a dedicated doctor at the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, Cyril Umebiye, Olumide Oyejide and the African Games Gold medalist, Adebisi Adekansi” the release stated.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Ogun State Scrabble Association, dedicated coaches and the Ogun State Sports Council for their unwavering support and commitment to nurturing grassroots athletes.
