
Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande has received an in-house delegation led by the Acting Desk Officer for Persons with Disabilities at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Alhaji Kaka Mallam to address the needs and concerns of youth with disabilities.
In his address, Alhaji Kaka noted that the leadership style of the Minister has motivated the staff of the ministry, while emphasizing that the promotion of the “Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2028 has given the challenged a sense of belonging in the Ministry.
He also commended the Minister for his commitment to youth development, capacity building, and mentorship as well as his strive towards the protection of the interest of youth in the country.
While responding, the Minister stated that the Act, which aims to promote inclusion, equality, and empowerment of persons with disabilities in the country, is important and must be promoted with full compliance.
Olawande disclosed that the ministry, as part of its sensitization efforts, is working to educate staff and the general public against the discrimination of people with disabilities.
He also noted that the published gazette that embodies the ‘Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018 will raise awareness about the rights and protections afforded to persons with disabilities under the law, while assuring that the gazette will be distributed to libraries, MDAs, and private organizations across the country.
