Youths protest guard’s killing, burn poultry farm in Jos

By James Moses (9News Nigeria-Jos) Some youths set blaze a poultry farm in Etoo Baba commuinity in Jos North local government area of Plateau State over alleged killing of a security guard working in the farm.

9News Nigeria correspondent gathered that the youths also looted birds in the farm before setting the entire building ablaze.

A resident of the area who claimed anonimity, the action of the youths generated tension within and outside the community.

He said: “The fire burn everything, including bthe car parked in the farm’s compound, and spread to another building in the neighborhood.

“From what I heard, the youths were angry because a security man working in the farm was killed after he was accused of stealing eggs from the farm.

“It was the owner’s son who was alleged to have killed the security guard. The son, who had been suspecting the security guard of stealing, was said to have caught him red-handed and started beating him and in the process the guard collapsed and died instantly.

“When the youths got wind of the scenerio, they mobilized to set the property ablaze as the owner of the farm escaped with his entire family members to unknown destination.

Meanwhile, Men of the Fire Service were around and fought the fire”.

Ajiji Izang, a resident of the area confirmed to 9News Nigeria that security personnel were still patrolling the area to restore peace and order.

However, there was no response from the Police at the time of filling this report.
