Scores of people have been killed, several injured and properties destroyed as gunmen invaded Chando Zerreci Community in Bassa local government area of Plateau State.
Lawrence Zango, the National Publicity Secretary, Irigwe youth movement disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Zango said that criminals launched the attack on Saturday night during the annual festival of ” Terreci” which usually ushers them into the new farming season.
He condemned the attack and described the act as ” Sad and unfortunate” saying the injured are currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Miango.
He called on the government at all levels and security agencies to find lasting solutions to the incessant attacks that usually lead to the loss of lives and property.
He appealed to the International Community to come to the aid of the people and to support them and address the huge humanitarian challenges caused by the attacks.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Plateau State Police Command, ASP Uba Ogaba, confirmed the attack, adding that the command had mobilized security agencies to the place to restore normalcy.
The PPRO called on residents of the area and Plateau State, in general, to remain calm and law-abiding, adding that security agencies are working hard to ensure safety.
