Ten passengers have tragically lost their lives, and another seven have sustained injuries in a devastating accident that took place on Tuesday in the Kara area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

This collision, which transpired at approximately 5 am, involved a Toyota Hiace bus in an ash color, bearing the registration number FKY898YF, and an orange-colored truck.

According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), it is believed that the primary cause of the accident was the excessive speed at which both vehicles were traveling.

The injured victims have since been rushed to the hospital to receive urgent medical attention, while the deceased have been respectfully transported to the Idera Morgue in Sagamu.

In a statement released by the FRSC’s Mowe unit command, it was revealed that their operatives swiftly carried out a rescue operation on the Ibadan-Lagos road near the Kara Turning towards the Interchange.

The statement further disclosed that a total of 18 adult males were involved in the collision. Regrettably, seven males sustained injuries, while ten males tragically lost their lives as a result of the crash. The preliminary findings strongly suggest that excessive speed caused the driver to lose control of the bus, leading to a collision with the tipper truck that was in the process of negotiating the turn.

It is indeed a heart-wrenching incident, as lives have been abruptly cut short and families left devastated by this tragic accident. The FRSC continues to urge all road users to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and prioritize safety to prevent such devastating incidents from occurring in the future.

“The Sector Commander, CC Anthony Uga was pained over the fatal crash that could have been avoided if necessary caution had been put in place.

“He also emphasised that drivers should endeavour to take a 15-minute rest for every four 4 hours drive because fatigue has been a major cause of road traffic crashes.”
