Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 17:suspected bandits were killed during a fierce gun battle with security operatives in Makuku village in Zuru Emirate, along the Kebbi-Zamfara border.
The confrontation occurred on Monday, August 10, when police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi States along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area.
According to the Kebbi State Police spokesman, Bashir Usman, 17 suspected bandits were also killed during the confrontation.
Two police officers reportedly sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers were a large group of more than 240 armed men, travelling on over 200 motorcycles, before they were intercepted by security personnel.
The incident highlights the continuing security challenges along the kebbi-Zamfara border, with security agencies expected to intensify operations to prevent further attacks and protect communities in the affected areas.
The Nigeria Police Force has mourned the fallen officers and vowed to sustain operations against the fleeing members bof the armed group while supporting the families of those killed and the injured personnel.
