Two men have been brought before a Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for alleged impersonation and cheating.
Tochukwu Godwin, 39, and Sani Yaro, 54, are standing trial on three counts of criminal conspiracy, impersonation and cheating.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Esther Bishen, told the court that the complainant, Simon Ajah, reported the matter at the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on May 6.
Bishen explained that the defendants paraded themselves as licensed land agents and defrauded the complainant of N600,000.
According to her, the offence runs contrary to sections 58, 142 and 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court for an adjournment to enable the police to call witnesses to prove its case against the defendants.
In her ruling, the presiding judge, Patience Birat, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 each and a surety in like sum.
Birat adjourned the matter until July 21 for hearing.
