The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed the 2018 budget into law.
The budget was passed after the presentation of the House Committee read by its co-chairman, Christian Ahiakwo.
Ahiakwo said the Appropriation Committee was compelled to approve the sum of Five Hundred and Ten Billion presented by Governor Nyesom Wike after a careful consideration of the bill.
In his resolution, Speaker of the House, Ikunyi Owaji-Igbani passed the bill after twenty-six members of the House voted in favour of the passage.
“We have done our bit as legislators and we hope and believe that the Executive will continue with their developmental strides especially in the area of infrastructural development. That is why we saw the need to approve over three hundred billion naira for capital expenditure in this fiscal year.
“We also expect that the Board of Rivers state Internal Revenue will meet its target starting from blocking all leakages and improve our IGR earnings,” he said.
