The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has officially inaugurated a caretaker executive committee to oversee the party’s activities until a new leadership is elected.

The move is geared toward stabilising the party and preparing it for the 2027 general elections.

The ceremony, which took place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, was presided over by the North East Zonal Vice Chairman of the ADC, David Lawal Babachir.

9news Nigeria reports that Babachir, who served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, explained that the formation of the interim committee was a decision made after thorough consultations with party stakeholders.

Speaking at the inauguration, Babachir stressed that the new structure was approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party after due consultation and in strict compliance with the ADC’s constitution.

“The leadership you see today is legitimate because it followed due process in line with the party’s constitution,” Babachir affirmed.

He further emphasised the importance of discipline within the party, warning that indiscipline or defiance would not be tolerated. Babachir also reiterated the party’s commitment to its guiding principles as stated by the National Chairman of ADC, Senator David Mark.

“Anyone opposed to the party’s constitution has no place in the ADC,” Babachir added, calling for unity and harmony among party members.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated interim chairman, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, thanked party leaders for their trust in his team and promised to unite the party.

Dasin, a former federal lawmaker and former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, emphasised that his leadership would focus on increasing women’s and youth’s participation in the party’s activities.

“As we assume this responsibility, I assure you that 60 percent of elective positions in the forthcoming congresses will be reserved for women and youth because of their vital role in our success,” Dasin stated.

Dasin, who described his emergence as “a child of necessity,” called on all aggrieved party members to rally behind the new leadership and help move the party forward.

“Every politician must expect criticism, but that should not change our character or commitment to the party,” he added.

The new interim chairman also promised that all future congresses within the state would be transparent, fair, and credible. He assured members that the party was committed to holding democratic and accountable elections as part of the efforts to build a stronger ADC in Adamawa State.

“We will ensure that future congresses are free from manipulation and ensure that every member has a say,” Dasin promised.
