Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has issued a stern warning to politicians in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections, cautioning against any attempt to manipulate or rig the electoral process.
Omo-Agege, who spoke while addressing supporters during his political campaign in Delta State, reportedly warned politicians that any attempt to subvert the will of the people through electoral manipulation would have serious consequences.
The former senator was quoted as saying, “Rig and die,” in what appeared to be a strong warning against politicians who may contemplate rigging the 2027 elections.
According to the remarks attributed to him, Omo-Agege stressed that the people of Delta State deserve a free, fair and credible electoral process, insisting that political actors should allow voters to freely choose their preferred candidates.
He reportedly told his supporters that anyone seeking peace and stability in the state should support an election conducted transparently and without intimidation, manipulation or electoral malpractice.
The former Deputy Senate President further warned that politicians should not assume that they could manipulate the electoral process without resistance, urging all political actors to respect the democratic rights of the electorate.
His comments have generated attention as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political parties already positioning themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
The statement has also raised concerns over the language being used in political campaigns, particularly the reference to violence and death in connection with electoral disputes.
As the 2027 elections approach, stakeholders are expected to encourage issue-based campaigns, peaceful participation and respect for the rule of law, while electoral authorities and security agencies remain responsible for ensuring that voters can exercise their rights without intimidation or violence.
Omo-Agege’s warning comes amid growing political manoeuvring in Delta State, where rival political interests are expected to intensify their campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the elections.
