Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of failing to make Nigeria’s preliminary voters’ register available online for public scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, through Prank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, demanded the immediate publication of the register, insisting that Nigeria must be allowed to verify their details and challenge false entries.
“Tinubu and INEC cannot hide 103 million names and expect Nigerians to trust the 2027 election”, Atiku said.
The controversy follows reports that INEC’s online portal did not display the preliminary register during the scheduled scrutiny period of October 9 to 15, 2026.
INEC, however, has said register was displayed at registration areas across the country and that it is compiling claims and objections ahead of publishing the final register
Atiku also questioned the commission over the reported failure to publish the register online as required by Section 19 (1) of the Electoral Act 2026.
He called for transparency in the handling of sensitive election materials and clear safeguards against counterfeit ballot papers.
He urged INEC to publish the register by local government area, area council and ward, explain the conflicting statements about the display exercise, and allow voters to correct errors before 2027 elections.
