The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man allegedly impersonating a Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The suspect was arrested at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when police operatives intercepted the vehicle in Maitama District of Abuja.
According to reports, preliminary investigations revealed that the concealed number plate bore the inscription “PRESIDENCY” alongside the registration number 10B218 FG.
The police reportedly conducted further checks after the suspect claimed he was authorised to use the number plate.
The checks allegedly revealed that the vehicle registration documents were forged.
Investigators also accused the suspect of impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The suspect and the vehicle were subsequently taken into police custody as investigations continued ahead of possible prosecution.
Earlier in October, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, directed officers to intensify enforcement against such violations, warning that concealed or unauthorised number plates could hinder the identification and tracking of vehicles linked to criminal activities.
The Command also warned against the unauthorised use of fake diplomatic number plates and tinted vehicle windows without valid permits.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said officers had been directed to enforce the relevant regulations professionally and avoid using the exercise as an opportunity for extortion.
