Residents and businesses across Lagos State and parts of Ogun State will endure a 25-day power disruption, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) embarks on a major infrastructure upgrade.
The scheduled outage, which will last from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily until August 21, beginning Monday, July 28, affecting the entire Lagos State and several communities in Ogun State, including Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ogijo, and parts of Agbara.
The maintenance work involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fiber cables on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, one of the major lines supplying electricity to Lagos and surrounding areas.
In an official statement, the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) confirmed that the maintenance, authorized by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO), is part of efforts to enable full functionality of the national grid’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
“The upgrade will enhance real-time grid monitoring and control, helping to improve the reliability and resilience of power supply in the long run,” the statement read.
Electricity distribution companies, including Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), have already begun notifying customers of the planned outages.
They have urged consumers to prepare for intermittent electricity supply and load shedding during the maintenance period.
Although other transmission circuits will remain operational to cushion the impact, electricity supply is expected to be significantly reduced across affected areas, especially during daytime hours.
Businesses reliant on consistent electricity are being advised to make alternative power arrangements, such as solar systems or generators, to mitigate disruptions.
The federal government has urged patience, assuring residents that the disruptions are temporary and will ultimately lead to improved power delivery in the region.
